Lisa D. Dance
UX Census (RVA) Founder
How it started…
Like many, Lisa didn’t start in UX, though at the beginning of her UX journey she noticed there were resources online but nothing about what was needed in the Richmond UX market. What skillsets were needed? What does the salary look like? How do you apply for your first UX role? What tools do you need to know? The UX field looks something like a maze of colorful tangled wires.
This gap inspired her to create something more local, leading to the idea of a survey similar to the UXPA international’s Salary Survey but with a broader scope than just salaries.
As someone who had been thinking about customer interactions and how to improve them since she was nine years old, the idea persisted until the World IA Day - Richmond event in February 2019, where the rich discussions further fueled Lisa's determination.
With the support of Milgo Yonis, Ladies That UX Richmond (Jenny Schmit, Lena Rankin), Katie Moriarty, Richmond Design Group, and RVA Content Strategy, the inaugural survey was launched, receiving an overwhelming response from the community.
If you live, work, or study in the Richmond, VA area and are currently in a UX role, seeking one, or are a student or career changer interested in entering the field, your participation is crucial.
